State Dept Advisory on Look-Alike Sites
The State Dept has issued an
Advisory on
Look-Alike passport information websites. Please take a few moments to
read this advisory carefully.
Yes, PassportInfo.Com is one of the non-official look-alike
passport information websites the State Dept discusses.
PassportInfo.Com is not in any way sponsored nor endorsed nor
recommended by the State Dept. PassportInfo.Com is written and maintained
by one individual, as a hobby. All advice here should be considered as
informal, unofficial advice. For official advice you need to contact the
State Dept or read their website.
Other look-alike websites trick the web visitor into paying for State
Dept forms. PassportInfo.Com does not. Webvisitors to PassportInfo.Com are
always referred to the application forms on the State Dept site, where
they can be downloaded free of charge. When you get the applications forms
from the State Dept site, you are assured of getting the most current
version of the form.
Other look-alike websites charge a fee for answering questions.
PassportInfo.Com does not, as the advice offered by return e-mail is
unofficial and informal. Questions are answered to the best of my ability,
but I cannot be held legally responsible for any errors or omissions. If
you are in doubt about anything on this site, be it the web version or an
e-mailed answer to a question, you are well advised to check the State
Dept's site for the correct information.
Remember, also, that I habitually return e-mail responses in plain text
format, without attachments. Every e-mail client software can easily
handle plain text messages, and there is little chance of spreading a
computer virus. There are spammers who are using my webmaster address, and
are doing so without my permission and against my protest.
I strongly believe in the value of international travel as a means of
promoting peace. I have written this website and continue to maintain it
in order to empower novice international travelers.
The State Dept has many resources on their website and I urge you to
make use of their excellent site. Most important are
Travel Warnings
where they alert travelers to dangerous situations in other parts of the
world. Please have a look at this section, even if you don't have time to
read everything the State Dept has published on their site.
The only revenue I receive from PassportInfo.Com are referral fees when
a web visitor purchases something from Amazon.Com. I have no way of
knowing who made a purchase, only that a purchase was made. I
appreciate those of you who support this website by clicking on the Amazon
links, then making a purchase. I use Amazon all the time and would not
advertise for them if I did not personally like them.
