The State Department has been swamped with passport applications, in response to the recent changes in the law regarding travel within the Western Hemisphere. A non-expedited application is now taking about 10 weeks to process. An expedited application is taking about 2 weeks to process.

If you are planning any international travel in the forseeable future, you are well advised to get your passport now, and avoid a last-minute panic.

This website is designed to furnish US Citizens, residing in the United States, with information necessary to apply for a US passport. In addition, there are assorted travel tips for the international traveler, as well as brief reviews of travel books for further reading. Note that the entire travel guidebooks section has been brought up to date.

Anyone planning on taking an international trip, even just dreaming of some future trip, is well advised to apply for their passport early, as in NOW. Do not put it off. Once you submit your application, it may be returned to you for some reason, such as needing additional documentation or better photos. Get the passport in your hands first, then start planning your trip.

Please remember that this website is not written nor maintained by government officials. For official information about passports, appointments, and status, you must contact the State Department. This website offers informal, unofficial advice, only.

Applications for Children: Both parents must give consent for the issuance of a passport to a minor under the age of 14. This is in response to the growing concern of international child abduction. If your child is under the age of 14, then please read the State Dept regulations for complete information on this law. Minors who have passed their 14th birthday need only one parent's permission for passport issuance. As of Feb 1, 2004, all applicants, including babies and children, must be present at the passport acceptance office.

There is no charge for the use of this Website. We believe that international travel is a peace-promoting, life-enhancing experience and want to encourage as many people as possible to take that first step: applying for a passport.
