Foreign Language Verbs
For the native speaker of English, learning foreign language verbs can
be one of the most frustrating aspects of language study. Other languages
have a myriad of endings and irregularites that confuse the student, and
are difficult or impossible to figure out using a standard bilingual dictionary.
Anyone studying a foreign language needs a "verb dictionary"
where the tenses are spelled out and each verb is conjugated in first,
second, third person, singular and plural, formal and familiar.
The classic verb dictionary is the Barron's 201/301/501 Verbs series.
This series presents a complete conjugation of each verb, along with
idiomatic expressions as used in sentences. A sample English conjugation
is offered along with a description of what all those tenses mean. This
verb dictionary should stand on your reference shelf next to the bilingual
vocabularly dictionary.
