Publication Dates

We have collected over two thousand separate travel guidebooks in this catalog, all linked to the appropriate pages in Amazon.Com. Some have publication dates several months in the future; others have publication dates years in the past.

Which travel guide book is right for me?

In general, the best guide book is the most recently published book. Information about hotels, restaurants, city maps and other important information will be the most current in the most recently published book. If all is equal, pick the book that is the most recently published.

If you are planning a trip for several months in the future, you may decide it best to wait until the latest edition of a travel guide is available. Amazon.Com offers you the option of pre-ordering books, then alerting you to their availability when they are published. For many, this is an excellent way of insuring they are going on their trip with the most current guidebook possible.

Amazon.Com also has an option of looking at all editions of a given book, so if you click on a book that is not yet published, they will probably have a link to previous editions, should you want to purchase the book immediately.

Why even bother listing books that are years out of date?

On the other hand, you may prefer the writing style of a given series and are satisfied with buying a guide book for this year's destination that might be several years out of date. Historical information does not change, nor does the appearance and design of historic monuments and buildings. A guide book published some years back that has the descriptive text and illustrations that suit your needs is best.

For less frequently visited locations, you may have no other choice but a guide book published several years ago.
