International Airports and Airlines

Before you leave for your trip, you might want to visit the web sites dedicated to your departure gateway, connecting and arrival airports. You will find links to many airports that have international flights here on this page.

United States
North America
(Canada, Mexico, Caribbean)
Europe
Middle East
Asia and South Pacific
Africa
South America

International Airlines

Be sure to make a note of the three-letter airport codes for all airports you will pass through. When you check in your baggage in your departure airport, make a quick check of the airline luggage tag to make sure all the airport codes are correct.

A suggested strategy for advance airport research is to look for a terminal map and print it out using your browser print function. Then, highlight any services or features you think you might need while you are in transit.

Check out availability and locations of:

  • Your airline's terminal, concourse and check-in counter
  • Parking lots for short-term and remote reduced prices lots
  • Airport shuttle services and limo services
  • Rental car and public transport services
  • Airline frequent-flyer and executive lounges
  • ATM Locations (for excellent maps, see the Visa Airport ATM page)
  • Computer work station concessions
  • Left-luggage services
  • Companion restrooms (for families and disabled travelers)
  • Children's play areas
  • Airport artwork and history (You might have a lot of time to kill, and many airports have art and local history or industry exhibits.)
  • Designated smoking areas
  • Duty-Free shopping
  • Pre-departure Customs offices to register your foreign-made possessions before leaving. (See discussion in Immigration and Customs)
  • Bookstores
  • Traveler's Aid counters
  • Public telephones
  • Newstands, restaurants and shops
  • Currency exchange offices (See discussion of foreign currency.)
  • International Arrivals area (pass this on to loved ones meeting your flight when you return)
  • Barber shops and hairdressers
  • Facilities for a quick shower or a few hours sleep (especially good to find in connecting airports)
  • Chapels or quiet places for reflection and prayer.

We tried to get as many international airports with transcontinental flights as possible. Some airports do not have web pages. Others have web pages of varying quality. If you find a good international airport webpage not included here, e-mail us and we'll put it in.

This is a MUST READ for international travelers. It concerns protecting yourself from pickpockets and other scam artists.
